On the day this letter was published, the Ceann Comhairle issued a second public statement in which he expressed "sorry" in very clear terms and indicated that he would place records of his expenses in Dail Library shortly.

UPDATE: In the light of the revelations (2nd October) about travel expenses incurred while Ceann Comhairle, there can be little doubt that, given that he is ex-officio Chairman of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission, he should resign without delay and pay back all expenses which were not entirely necessary for him to fulfil his duties.
